Associations and Societies

Various Associations/ Clubs provide opportunities to discover the hidden talents in students through participation in a range of extracurricular activities and develop leadership qualities.

Principal is the ex-officio chairperson of all Association and Clubs. A senior teacher who is assisted by two student secretaries, one from Junior College and the other from Degree College heads each unit.

English Literary Club
These Associations arrange various activities that promote proficiency of students in the language of their liking through Elocution, Debate, Essay-writing Competitions and Discussions on topical issues.

Science Association
Includes scientific temper in students by conducting Science workshops, exhibitions etc. while lectures and demonstrations by experts help the students to develop an insight into science. A visit to the centers of excellence in different scientific fields exposes the students to the current scientific development.

Nature Club
Promotes love for Nature and creates environmental awareness by arranging field trips, outings, study tours, exhibitions and seminars/ lectures by well known personalities. Essay competitions, Quiz contests, Eloqution contests on relevant topics are also conducted.

Art Circle
Provides platform for developing and displaying creativity in Art like Photography, Painting, Flower Arrangements, Rangoli etc., by arranging exhibitions and competitions.

Cultural Association
Arranges programmes aimed at developing interest in Indian culture and traditions.

Music Circle
Promotes performing Arts like Music, both vocal and instrumental, Dance and Drama, Organises training workshops for interested students in various branches of performing arts.

Planning Forum
Stimulates the interest of students in subjects pertaining to Commerce and Business by arranging talks of experts and conducting discussions and debates on topical issues in Economics, Commerce, Finance Management, HRD and so on.

College festivals:

Sports competitions
Held in the first week of January 2001. A fully equipped Gymkhana with a large playground is a part of infrastructure facility provided to the students in the college. Although participation in all games is encouraged a special facility in the form of training under the supervision of experienced coaches in games like Volleyball, Basketball, Football exists on campus. Intra Collegiate competitions are arranged for indoor games like Badminton, Chess and Carom.

Thakur College encourages promising sportspersons; especially those who intend to take sports as a professional career. Such candidates are usually given the benefit to relaxation in admission standard, certain academic concessions apart from the sports freeships and various prizes instituted for outstanding performances at Intercollegiate, Inter-university, State and National levels.

As a result of the systematic promotion of sports and planned assistance extended to the students at the right time, the Thakur College within a span of three years of its existence emerged as champions at the Intercollegiate Volleyball Tournament conducted by the University of Mumbai in 1992-2000 and five of its players were selected to represent the university at the Inter-university Zonal Tournament.

College Canteen
College has a spacious canteen managed by a professional caterer. Good quality food is available at reasonable rates. Care is also taken to maintain clean and hygienic conditions in and around canteen.
